Recently, someone that I care about has been a victim of domestic violence….again! The same statement has been repeated again and again, “He has changed! It won’t happen again.” Unfortunately, many times, it does. The violence repeats itself as victims want to believe these words. I had said this and fallen into this trap myself… until the truth was revealed to me. So, how do you know if someone has really changed? Well, only God really knows the truth because He knows what is in each person’s heart and He is the only One who can actually change someone. However, The Word gives us a clue that we can use to identify a person’s character…What kind of fruit does that person produce. Galatians 5:22-23 says, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such there is no law.” So, no matter what a person says that they are, the true evidence is what is actually displayed by their actions, words, responses, etc. The things that are produced by the person. If anger, resentment, frustration, irritability or any of these negative behaviors are produced, chances are that he has not changed. God gave us these words to teach us and guide us that we will not be deceived by the tricks of the enemy.
Prayer: Lord, I pray for wisdom and discernment for Your children; they will will recognize the fruit that is produced by each person and realize that Your Word is our guide to get through this life. I pray for Your Holy Spirit to sweep across this land, bringing healing, deliverance, and restoration to the multitudes in Jesus’ name… Amen.
