Almost sounds like a Dr. Seuss comment…. However, I want to re-emphasize that many people walk around who pretend to be the sweetest, kindest person– until they are behind closed doors or possibly think that their behavior is not being observed by others. None of us are to judge. But, we can use wisdom and knowledge to discern truth from non-truth.
The Bible compares people to trees in several places. So we think we could be compared to a tree. Some are tall; some are short; some are thin; some are stout!– Sounds like a nursery rhyme or story again. However, what the Bible actually compares us to is the kind of fruit that the tree produces….
“A good tree can’t produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can’t produce good fruit.
A tree is identified by its fruit. Figs never grow on thornbushes, nor grapes on bramble bushes.
A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart. (Luk 6:43-45 NLT)
So, again… What kind of tree are we? Do we produce anger, resentment, frustration, irritation or other negative traits? Or do we produce love, kindness, gentleness, compassion, and other sweet fruit or positive traits. If you are not sure what kind of fruit that you produce, think about what you revert to when something happens unexpectedly. Do you yell, scream, lash out??? Or do you pray, say everything will be ok, and comfort those involved? Something to think about!!! What kind of tree are we?? You can use this to discern others behaviors. What kind of tree are others? What kind of fruit does that person in question produce? God does not want us to be abused or abusive!! Are you???
