Love… should not hurt! (1 Cor.13:4-8 NIV)

love is patient
LOVE… It should not hurt!
Many things have been written about “LOVE”. We all dream of the day that our “true love” will come and we will live “happily-ever –after”. We all watch various “love stories” with dreams for our wonderful futures with the love of our lives. But what is love?

Love and marriage has become over commercialized with millions being spent for Valentine’s Day and on elaborate weddings every year. But, how many of these marriages last the year or five years or ten years or more. How many of these marriages are truly based on love? How many are based on lust? How many are based on financial gain? Or how many are based on lies and deceit? Do you really know the person that you are pledging to live your life with? Do you really know the person behind the mask? There are many who put on “shows” to get what they want. Do not fall victim to these!
So how do you tell?

The bible gives us a description of love:
”Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 (NIV)
Does your relationship fit this description of love? Love should never hurt! It should build up, not tear down. Love should never be abusive!

  1. I LOVE this 🙂 My abuser (a boyfriend, not a husband thank goodness) was continuously telling me he loved me. As a young teen, this meant the world to me and allowed me to talk myself into staying with him even when I knew I shouldn’t have.

    • It’s amazing how so many of us fall into that trap. Love is a powerful word and melts the heart of many unsuspecting victims. Again, God has given us the guide to tell us what it really is. Unfortunately, I did not read the “Guide” before I made all of my mistakes. God bless you and thank you so much for following and the encouragement as I start this blog to reach out to all of the abuse victims who need the Help that I received… The True Love of Christ.
