I woke up this morning and my question to the Lord was “What do you want me to write about today?” The word “RELATIONSHIPS” quickly came to mind… So, here it goes:
Relationships... We all start out in life and develop various kinds of relationships. As we progress in life and pursue our paths, we develop both healthy and unhealthy relationships. We have relationships that develop in our teens and may expand into romantic relationships. As we mature, relationships progress. By this point we have developed relationships with family, friends, church families, and in our work environments. So as you can see, over the years we develop many relationships.
The relationships we have developed, come in many forms. These relationships may be nurturing, friendly, kind, loving, and romantic. In this instance, these relationships are positive. However, other relationships may be controlling us, placing unreasonable demands upon us, or demeaning us. These relationship can represent many forms of abuse. We have all encountered various types of unhealthy relationships. Where relationships become a problem is finding ourselves trapped in those that negatively impact our lives.
That is what happened to me. I listened to the negative words spoken over me. I listened to the demeaning words, the unrealistic demands, the abusive cycle that trapped me in a world of negativity… Until God set me free.
When God came into my life, He rescued me from an abusive relationship. God comforted me, provided for me, and healed my brokenness. I cried to God in my brokenness, He showed up, showed me what a real relationship looked like and began my restoration process. I had been a “weekend Christian”, fulfilling the “duty” and doing good “works”, but then God began to develop a real relationship with me. I did not know Him, and I did not trust Him. Since that time, God has taught me to have a deep personal relationship with Him. This intimate relationship with God is where I learned to hear His voice, trust Him, and follow His guide down the path that He has planned for me… God desires a close relationship with all of us.
” You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.”
