“Father of the fatherless… Come down and rescue us.”

“Father of the fatherless… Come down and rescue us.”

These words from Jason Upton’s song have been playing in my head for several days so I have been praying for the Lord to bring more understanding.  I know that we need to look beyond what we normally see to try to see what God sees…

Walking into a crowded room,
observe and what do you see?
People talking in groups,
smiling and happy as can be.
Others with cast down stares,
looking so broken and lonely.

These hiding in corners,
with no friends in sight.
Alone and hurting,
none caring about their plight.
For these are the broken,
who try to hide in plain-sight.

And no one sees them,
or gives them a second thought.
Others busy with their lives,
their own joy they’ve sought.
Not aware of these broken people,
or battles that they’ve fought.

Then walking into a nursing home,
observe and what do you see?
Many downcast and broken,
feeling neglected and lonely.
Once independent and healthy,
as they raised their family.

Many of this older generation,
fought for us to be free.
They stood proud and strong,
as they defended this country.
But now, broken and alone,
feeling abandoned by even family.

Looking forward to visits,
by those that they love.
But feeling lonely and forsaken,
they then call to above.
For God hears their prayers,
and covers them with His Love.

These are just some examples,
of those who are so broken.
But God loves the broken-hearted,
and this is clearly spoken.
He reaches out to them all,
and is with them to the end.

For He is a Father…
to all the fatherless.
He is a Friend…
to all the friendless…
And He is the Healer…
in all our brokenness.
And this call goes out…
Lord, come down and rescue us!

  1. Amen!!! God is more than willing to show us how he sees the world. But so few of us actually ask for his vision. Thank you for the reminder to be asking for his vision. I needed it.

  2. Excellent. The bible says without vision the people perish, you only have to look at the world to see the sad truth of that!! Keep up the great work 🙂
