Venomous Words

Too many people feel that abuse is only when bruises are evident. But I can tell you that words cause wounds as deep as physical abuse. And though many may not realize the abuse, the victims know the abuse, harassment, and intimidation behind the words.

Venomous words…
was the thought that came to me.
Spreading poison…
but no wounds to see.
And like a serpent…
as its next victim it seeks.
These words are poisonous…
causing damage by those who speak.
For words have power…
to build up or destroy.
And many are wounded…
as victims of abusers’ ploy.
For these cunning abusers…
secretly hide behind closed doors.
Invisibly stabbing their victims…
embedding poison and more.
Cause they strike in secret…
like a snake slivering in the night.
With venomous words causing damage…
as they are spoken out of sight.
But God sees and hears all…
and knows the poison that is spread.
And I can tell each of you…
these words you will one day dread.
For nothing is hidden…
including each word and its wound.
So beware what you speak…
for you will answer for it soon.

  2. So true. My father used to regularly tell me that I am stupid and that I would need plastic surgery on my face when I was older (I was 6 or 7 years old). The effects of those words are still with me today 30 years later. Thanks for raising awareness of this Secret Angel. xoxo

    • I am so sorry that this happened to you. Too many people to not consider the damage that their words will do. I pray that lives will be transformed and more will speak blessings over their families instead of curses.

  3. How wonderful that we can find comfort even when faced with this kind of abuse in the Lord, Jesus. He can soothe the deepest wounds.

  4. Indeed, scripture talks about life and death being in the power of the tongue and that the tongue kindles quite a fire. May we all live God’s spiritual law of love towards Him, others and self and spkeak that love to others.

    • Wow… Thanks for sharing that. I just knew it but had never seen the data about it. It is amazing that so many still do not believe the damage that abusive words and lost love causes. Thanks again for sharing and many blessings to you, my friend.
