“Head” Knowledge versus “Heart” Knowledge

“Head” Knowledge versus “Heart” Knowledge…
Two very different ways to KNOW.
One is learned from personal experience…
the other from reading or even watching a show.
For though we learn from reading or hearing…
to experience things does not compare.
And it’s in these real-life experiences…
we find this “heart” knowledge I want to share.
It’s like reading about abuse…
and sensing how victims may feel.
The fear and pain does not compare…
for the situation is not real.
Versus being screamed at or threatened…
even having to run for your life.
It is an entirely different kind of knowledge…
personally experiencing this abusive strife.
And this goes for all abuses…
that this world throws at us all.
For we have all had different experiences…
since creation and man’s fall.
For what one experiences…
may be different for another man.
And it makes it more difficult…
for the other to understand.
And even our experiences with God…
are all different you see.
For what you have each experienced…
is definitely between you and He.
But God can’t be put in a box…
and can’t be held to certain expectations.
And it’s when we truly KNOW this…
that we are open to His revelations.
For many have “head” knowledge of God…
with scriptures they read every day.
Then others have “heart” knowledge…
as they experience God a different way.
And it is when this knowledge…
drops from your head to your heart.
That an intimate relationship with God…
is definitely going to start.

  1. A great post…..More and more I desire that my relationship with God becomes a heart thing compared to a mind thing. I don’t want to have a head knowledge of God but I need a heart knowledge of Him. It’s only when I have a heart connection with Him that I get to really know Him….thanks for sharing!

  2. Powerfully true. I think you have just identified the redemptive element to abuse. It pounds that head knowledge deep into our hearts, opening the path for us to experience God in ways we could not have otherwise. This doesn’t take away the pain or the incredible wrongness of abuse, but it does give us the lens to be able to see God’s beautiful purposes for it. Our pain is not wasted. It is getting us more of Him!

  3. I have researched and found that we have head/brain memory and heart memory. When God created us he must have had a plan. We say our heart aches not our head when something sad happens. Our heart takes a jump when something wonderful happens. We feel this in our chest. What you write is so true. When the head and heart knowledge sync together, our lives take on true meaning!

    • Amen… Thanks for the information. I never thought of looking it up. I just wrote what was on my heart. Thanks for the confirmation. Many blessings to you, my friend.

  4. I get what you are saying, Angel. To read about or see something is one level of knowledge, but it can’t be as deep a knowledge or understanding as those who “live” it. Everything has to be an understanding on a unique, individual plain.

For this reason, I have “pain” which some others haven’t experienced, and vise versa. So we each have to allow for that when considering our responses to people. I can only put my trust In God that He will handle all things for all people according to their needs.

    Thanks for sharing this one…

    Steve 🙂

    • Amen. Yes, we have to trust God to handle it all. We definitely serve an awesome God who is in tuned with all our needs… never late, never early, and always in His perfect timing. You are a blessing my brother. Hope you have a great, blessed weekend!!!

      • The depth and scope of your love for Him is always a great example for everyone to see, Angel!

Enjoy your weekend as well, and we’ll talk soon…

        🙂

      • Ephesians 3:17-19, “… that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge”… When we truly realize how much He loves us, we can’t help but love Him back. 🙂

      • I could not agree more! In fact, it amazes me when people are seeking lasting and meaningful relationships that they don’t react to the love which God has for us in Christ.

        🙂
