“Worthless”… Abusive Words to Many Ears

Every time I see this picture, I think of those who I know that have been wounded by these negative words spoken into their lives. Many have failed to reach their true potential due to the negative impact of these words. There is power in words spoken! So, be careful the words that you speak!

“Worthless… Worthless…”
abusive words to many ears…
witnessed with anger…
with feelings of fear.
For these words are spoken…
to so many when young…
who then feel worthless…
before their lives have begun.

“Worthless…worthless…”
branded words on little hearts.
Affecting their futures…
before they even have a start.
For feelings of worthlessness…
grow with negative words spoken…
and its the power of these words…
that make so many feel broken.

“Worthless…worthless…”
words that should never be said.
Avoiding all negative stabs…
with positive words spoken instead.
For words can build up…
or words can tear down.
And it’s in these negative words…
where brokenness is found.

  1. I’m guilty of using harsh words… But now I resolve to only speak life, speak encouraging words. It is not an easy task. Just imagining the negative effects of a word that might inflict to others, I feel disgusted. So, there, I resolve to speak life. I hope others will also realize what they are inflicting with the mere words they use.

    • Amen!! I totally agree and have also resolved to only speak encouraging words. I have tried to raise my kids the same way. We have to build up… not tear down. Speak life… not death. Too many people do not realize the damage that is done with the words that are spoken. I pray that their eyes will be opened. God bless you, Julienne.

  2. Almost in my dotage and yes, those abusive words, meted out on a daily basis throughout my childhood, still ring in my ears. “You will fail, you cannot do that, haha, look at you, don’t come crying to me when it goes wrong” and so on. God is healing the brokeness and I have chosen to forgive the breakers.

    • Amen!! I totally understand Amanda. Verbal abuse is worse that people realize. Too many believe that if there are no bruises then it is not abuse… but it is and it’s destructive, leading many down wrong paths in their lives. Thanks for sharing and God bless you, Amanda.

  3. Amen. James said our words either bless or curse. But we seem to think there’s a third option. This is great reminder to us to be an encourager and bring healing and hope to those who cross our path. Blessings.

    • Amen! Yes, we need to encourage, not discourage; speak life, not death. Too many do not realize the damage to the souls and spirits of those victims of verbal and emotional abuse and all abuses. I really appreciate your support, Mel. God bless you, my brother!!

  4. Wow. I feel it. My dad would call all of us kids “useless”, “miserable”, and ” worthless”. Then he had the nerve to say that he ” did the best he could do” and ” that was the way he was taught”. Man I called him out on that. Of course all that got me was being raged at and touched in all the wrong ways. While I was asleep. I would wake up and he was right there. At his memorial, most of his kids talked about him. Not me. He was a rat. Relatives came up to my boyfriend, not even me, and told him people around saw the way my dad treated us and didn’t like it. No one tried to save us or help us.

    • I can totally relate to what you are saying. It was only after my separation and then divorce that many came forward and spoke up about the abuse from my ex. Many see but don’t want to get involved. I am so sorry that this happened to you and will be praying for your healing and restoration of all the wounds of your past.

  7. Beautifully worded. I suffer with this even today. These words have haunted me for 55 years. It’s like a canker worm embedded in my soul that no matter what I do, it still is there. I pray my healing come someday as I ever pursue the paths of righteousness and my Redeemer daily. God bless you this day sis 💔

    • I totally understand! After so many years of hearing negative spoken into our lives, we revert back to the negative until we retrain our minds. I am having to use 2 Corinthians 10:5 and tell myself to hold every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. It is a process. I pray for healing and restoration for all of us who have suffered this. God bless you!
