“What You See is What You Get”… or Really? (Matthew 7: 17-20)

This is for the many who have been deceived by what we see on the “outside” of a person. Remember, it is only what is on the inside that really matters. For anger, resentment, bitterness, and many negative traits can be hidden… until what is in the heart is exposed.

“What you see is what you get”…

Is what many like to say.

But sometimes it’s not…

and many are deceived this way.

For what it looks like on the outside…

is not really what is in…

and until we look much closer…

this deception will not end.

For outward appearances…

lead many victims astray…

for the truth lies deep within…

so let God lead your way.

For with every good tree…

no bad fruit will it bare.

So if you see “bad fruit”…

you really need to beware.

“Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.” Matthew 7: 17-20

Dear Lord, only You see what is hidden deep within the hearts of all people. We need You to help us discern what lies within. Holy Spirit, lead us every day so we will no longer be deceived by outward appearances or wayward words but will be led by You to trust those who You deem trustworthy. Expose their “fruit” so we will no longer be deceived. Reveal the “good fruit” and the “bad fruit” and teach us to identify those who are “wolves in sheep’s clothing” so we will be deceived no more… in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
