Selfies, Pride, and Pornography

As narcissism as been my focus this week, I want to address another growing problem with the internet these days. Too many of our youth fall victim to the lies and deception that the obscurity of the internet allows. Identities are hidden as names are changed while the innocent trust and the deceptive play harmful games. Kids are stolen and sold into trafficking with promises of love or wealth or fame, while many parents don’t even realize that these youth are communicating with strangers.

Selfies, pride and pornography…
are growing problems today.
As many become absorbed…
in the worldliness of this day.
Teens taking pictures…
of themselves with such pride.
And even pictures of parts…
that should be clothed and hide.
So much pride…
making narcissism grow…
to grand proportions…
that we previously didn’t know.
Pictures over the internet…
leading many to be picked…
for pornography is growing…
with young girls being tricked.
For claims of glamour…
and promises of  wealth or fame…
lead many to pornography…
with heartbreak and shame.
For the young don’t realize…
the dangers that lurk…
when they play on the internet…
with the evils at work.
So Dear Lord, I pray…
please protect our youth…
so they’ll not be deceived…
and will know the truth.
That pride will not prevail…
and pornography will not grow…
and hearts will turn to You…
and righteousness they’ll know.
Deliver all from these evils…
that lurk over the “net”…
and protect all from decisions…
that they will one day regret.

  1. Because there’s a HUGE market place for sex, that, is why there are so many that would supply it, it’s simple supply and demand, the basic law of economics, and, because of how everything is getting transmitted online, there’s NO way to stop it…

    • You are right about the supply and demand. It is a growing industry while immorality grows. But God!! There is nothing that He can’t do so we need to keep praying for our children, families, and countries. God bless you!

  2. Wow, the picture says a lot about our culture, sadly enough. Your poem is a much needed admonition about the connection of our obsession with self with the dangers of pornography and human trafficking (not to mention, feeding the perversity of treating people like objects). Would that every parent and teenager read this and consider. Blessings to you.

    • Many thanks and many blessings to you, my brother. I pray that hearts will turn to our Father and that eyes will be opened to the evil that lurks just waiting to kill, steal, and destroy the lives of our youth who ignore the dangers of lust, greed, and various immoralities. Please continue to join me in prayer for our youth and this entire country. God bless you, Mel!!
