As we begin October’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month, I want to start by reminding everyone that negative words are more damaging than most even realize. Words cut deeper than a knife and many victims are wounded by these abuses that we suffer. Just because you do not see bruises or cuts externally, does not mean that they are not present internally.

Cut to shreds…
by words spoken.
Few visible wounds…
but internally broken.
For words slash and cut…
to the depths of our soul
so be careful what you say…
and don’t receive all you’re told.
For negative words spoken…
that you accept and receive…
settle deep in your heart…
for these lies you will believe.
But God says differently…
for He knows our spirit being…
and it’s when we believe His Truth…
that we’ll begin to receive His healing.

Dear Lord, only You see the multitude of wounds to our hearts and souls that are caused by abusive words spoken. You see the damage done by verbal abuse and the deep wounds that lead many of us down paths of brokenness. We pray that You deliver all of us from evil and set us free from all the abuses of this world. Heal all the wounds of our pasts and purify our hearts so that the cycle of abuse will be broken from our lives as we treat all with kindness and respect. And Lord, we pray that You change laws to recognize verbal and emotional abuses so that victims can be protected from these words that cut deep as knives… in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
