The Eyes… The Window to The Soul!

During October’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month, I want to reinforce that abuse is hidden… but the effects of sadness and brokenness is not. We all need to be attentive to see the brokenness, especially in children who are being abused, and reach out to help those in need. Let us all be aware of the eyes and the stories that they tell… and reach out to be a voice for the voiceless.

The eyes…
The window to the soul!
So when we look at others…
what story will be told?
Will we see the sadness…
that brokenness brings.
Or will we see the joy…
that happiness sings.
For our eyes tell a story…
of what lies in our soul.
Whether happy or sad…
there’s truth to behold.
For eyes seem to shine…
when joy is in our hearts.
But eyes seem dark and dreary…
when our happiness departs.
So what’s the root cause…
of this darkness we find?
What has stolen our joy…
and removed all our shine?
And what about these children…
looking so lost and alone?
What happened to their joy?
Where has their happiness gone?
For children should be happy,
joyful, and carefree!
So when sad and fearful…
what happened to each of thee?
We need to realize…
that abuse is always hidden.
So when eyes show brokenness…
question possible acts forbidden.
For our eyes tell our story…,
of whats hidden deep inside.
And whether our joy or sadness…
neither will be able to hide.

“Your eyes are windows into your body. If you open your eyes wide in wonder and belief, your body fills up with light. If you live squinty-eyed in greed and distrust, your body is a dank cellar. If you pull the blinds on your windows, what a dark life you will have!” Matthew 6:22-23

Dear Lord, You see deep within the hearts and  souls of all men… but You have given us windows to our souls and the ability to see what lies deep within each man, woman, and child through their eyes. Help us to all learn to discern the truth from the lies and read what lies deep within, hidden except through our eyes. Help us to discern the innocent victims of abuse and rise up to be the a voice for the voiceless. Empower us that we will no longer ignore the brokenness of others but will reach out to help them to overcome the struggles and abuses that each life brings… in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

  1. Amen. People need to see Jesus’ love and compassion through our eyes. That we might look past ourselves to bring healing and wholeness to the wounded. This is love. Blessings.

  2. How true this is! People’s eyes give away their hearts in so many cases. Guess that’s where we get the saying “look me in the eyes and tell me that’s true” etc. The Lord is a very smart Father! Steve

    • Amen!! Yes He is! And since the eyes are the window to our soul,we need to beware of what we allow in our vision. It will affect our souls. We need to guard our gates.
