The Forbidden Fruit

This is a message that is “food for thought” for all of us. Now I can tell you that as I was showering this morning, an additional verse popped into my mind about the brokenness of man. We have to realize that all negative things impact us negatively. Beware of what you take in…

“The Forbidden Fruit”…
is a thought that just came to me.
But do we really know…
what that “fruit” was really to be.
For many have considered the “fruit”…
with apples frequently depicted.
But have we narrowed our thoughts…
of what it was that God restricted.
Was it the apple…
that so many pictures have been made…
or was it a pecan…
under which tree God gave them shade.
Was it a pomegranate…
from which the seeds of flavor burst…
or was it a fig…
of which tree Jesus later cursed.
What was this “fruit”…
written about so many years ago?
Now what really was it…
that God wanted us to know?
For “fruits” come in many forms…
with words and actions we’ve seen…
evidenced by how we treat others…
whether we’re kind to them or mean.
So could this forbidden fruit…
which for many years has been spoken…
actually be any negative word or act accepted…
which leads His children to be broken.

And “forbidden fruits” can even be…
lustful desires for money, sex or pride…
for anything in this world we seek…
these thoughts from God we can not hide.
So “forbidden fruits” can represent…
anything that hurts us or leads us to sin…
and this is exactly what happened…
when the fall of man did begin.
For whatever it is that’s wrong…
and sinful in God’s eyes…
is like a “forbidden fruit”…
from which blessings will be denied.
So are we missing some blessings…
with “forbidden fruit” in our lives?
Let us each self-examine our hearts…
to see which “fruit” it strives.

“And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply…” Genesis 1:22

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” Galatians 5:22-23

“Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.” Matthew 7:17

“Blessed is the man
Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners,
Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
He shall be like a tree
Planted by the rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in its season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither;
And whatever he does shall prosper.” Psalm 1-3

Dear Lord, we come humbly to You and repent for any “forbidden fruit” in our lives. We ask forgiveness for striving for anything of this world instead of striving for You. We ask for You to deliver us from any sins that we are holding onto and shed Your Light upon the darkness of our souls. Help us to self-examine our hearts, let go of any lustful desires, and impart into each of us the desire to reach for You and the righteousness that You have called us to… in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
