The Weapon of Choice– Where Wounds Are Not Seen

Too many do not realize the damage that is done by hurtful words and actions, believing that the only “real” abuses are physical or sexual. But these verbal and emotional abuses cause wounds deep to our spirits and souls and set up many for failure, especially during this day and time with cyber-bullying with the various social media. The wounds inflicted are not visible to the naked eye… but God sees all the wounds and every cause. Nothing is hidden from God.

The weapon of choice…
where wounds are not seen.
With words and actions…
that are hurtful and mean.
Like calling someone “fat”…
  with laughter causing shame…
causing more emotional eating…
and extra weight that is gained.

Or calling someone “ugly”…
and criticizing how they look…
is like a knife in the back…
or a hard hit right hook.
For the wounds are hidden…
but are inflicted to our souls…
as the verbal and emotional abuse…
continues with negative words told.

Like being called “Four-eyes”…
when you need glasses to see…
then suffer the consequences…
of repeatedly being bullied.
For these words hurt…
and continually tear down…
and though bruises are not seen…
  a damaged self-esteem is found.

Or being called a “Loser”…
even though you try and try…
but keep getting torn down…
and repeatedly cry and cry.
For all of these words hurt…,
causing wounds deep within…
and though hidden from sight…
it’s how brokenness does begin.

Dear Lord, only You see the wounds inflicted deep within each person.  You see the hearts of all and the intentions of each. You see the brokenness that each person has carried and the source of every wound. I pray for eyes to be opened to realize the damage done by words and deeds; that bullying in schools and over the internet will stop; that laws will be changed to protect the victims of these abuses; and that total healing and restoration will be given to all who have suffered from these abuses… in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

  1. The effects from the covert kind of bullying (emotional/psychological abuses) are JUST as damaging as the physical and the sexual kinds, and the emotional scars, you just can’t see them on the surfaces, so they’re even harder to detect!!!
