There once was a little girl…
who felt so all alone.
And even though she was loved…
affection was rarely ever shown.
So she grew up lonely…
feeling isolated and without worth…
even though she had a big family…
and the middle child in order of birth.
But no one knew of her brokenness…
and what caused her to accept less.
And she didn’t even realize God loved her…
and she was really truly blessed.
For through her years of brokenness…
and the many tears that she cried…
even though she felt all alone…
God actually never left her side.
Though years of emotional abuse…
from childhood through married life…
it was what she had come to accept…
even considering it part of being a wife.
But God wanted more for her…
than she ever really knew…
and pulled her out of her pit…
and gave her a life anew.
And though her prayers were many…
and not answered how she prayed for then…
as she looks back now…
she can see when her life truly did begin.
For God rescued her from the abuse…
and showed her children a different way…
which none would have ever known…
if still living in abuse today.
And this is the story of many…
who get broken by various types of abuse…
but God has better plans for us all…
and will put all we’ve been through to His use.
For so many young girls get wounded…
by abusive acts and words spoken…
then they accept negativity as normal…
because their hearts have been broken.
But God sees the wounds deep within…
and only He can heal and restore…
so let’s all cry out to Him…
for He has plans for us that are so much more.

Hey beautiful woman. You could have written this about me. I’m in every line, as so many of us are. What powerful, healing words. I needed to hear them today. Thank you so very much for the gift you share. Love and light.
Awe… Thank you so much for the encouraging words. God is so good!! I clearly heard, “There once was a little girl” then the words just flowed. Only He knew who needed to read it. May God bring healing and restoration to all those wounded by abuse. Many blessings to you!!

I’ve been quiet for the past couple of months, dealing with health issues and wondering exactly what the next stage in life will bring. Then along came this beautiful and moving blog post from Secret Angel. She touches at the very root of the pain and brings it into the light. Whatever you do … read this today … and listen to the song, ‘Broken Girl’. It could just as easily be ‘Broken Boy.’

You’re very welcome Angel!
Wow. If I didn’t know better, I’d swear this was written about me….with the exception of “God having plans.” It is a wonderful post.
Thanks Laurel! I am so glad that you could relate to it. Only God knows who it was meant for. And maybe we have more in common than we know.
May the Lord use this poem to minister to victims of abuse…
Amen!! And thanks!
