A Story of Forgiveness

This story of forgiveness just really touched my heart. As humans, it almost seems unnatural to forgive someone who has taken a loved one from us… especially someone’s child. But only through God’s help can we reach that point of forgiving someone who has hurt us so much, whether through various abuses  or neglect or even death. We all make mistakes. We all sin… for we are human. But only through God’s grace and mercy can we reach that level of forgiveness that seems impossible to do in the natural.

Dear Lord, help us to forgive all who have hurt us, whether intentionally or unintentionally. Help us to reach that level of forgiveness that  can only come from you with deep healing to our hearts and souls. And Lord, we ask forgiveness from all of those that we have hurt. We repent for our failures and humbly ask for forgiveness as You help us to forgive all who have hurt us so that we can walk into the calling that You have for each of our lives… in Jesus’ Name. Amen

“Forgiveness” by Matthew West

It’s the hardest thing to give away
And the last thing on your mind today
It always goes to those that don’t deserve

It’s the opposite of how you feel
When the pain they caused is just too real
It takes everything you have just to say the word…

Forgiveness
Forgiveness

It flies in the face of all your pride
It moves away the mad inside
It’s always anger’s own worst enemy
Even when the jury and the judge
Say you gotta right to hold a grudge
It’s the whisper in your ear saying ‘Set It Free’

Forgiveness, Forgiveness
Forgiveness, Forgiveness

Show me how to love the unlovable
Show me how to reach the unreachable
Help me now to do the impossible

Forgiveness, Forgiveness

Help me now to do the impossible
Forgiveness

It’ll clear the bitterness away
It can even set a prisoner free
There is no end to what it’s power can do
So, let it go and be amazed
By what you see through eyes of grace
The prisoner that it really frees is you

Forgiveness, Forgiveness
Forgiveness, Forgiveness

Show me how to love the unlovable
Show me how to reach the unreachable
Help me now to do the impossible
Forgiveness

I want to finally set it free
So show me how to see what Your mercy sees
Help me now to give what You gave to me
Forgiveness, Forgiveness

  3. I wish my ex and the two children we had together would adopt this attitude of forgiveness. We have lost many years because of the hardness of hearts and unwillingness to do anything about it…

    Steve

      • Thank you for that, Angel. It will take God’s work to touch their hearts…they have nothing to do with me at all!

        Steve

      • That must be very difficult. Now, I can tell you that I have nothing to do with my ex because of his past behaviors but have always encouraged my children to have a relationship with him. They all see his abusive ways and I am still here to pick up the pieces when he hurts them… even though he still does not see it.

      • It is good that you do not let your ex-relationship interfere with your children’s interaction with their father. That’s the way it should be.

It is sad that he still doesn’t see nor appreciate what he could have with his children, just as he failed to see what he could have had in his marriage to you…

The evil one can work to blind so many people of so many things! All we can do is pray for change if it is God’s will.

Enjoy your day, Angel, and I’m glad you are out and away from the abuses you experienced! God love and keep you all well…

        Steve
