So many who have been verbally and emotionally abused have deep-seeded negativity embedded in their minds from years of harsh words spoken to them. When something is said, they immediately consider it a criticism or look for any negative aspect of it. They have trouble accepting compliments because they have heard the opposite for so long. But we have to begin to retrain our minds. We have to hold every negative thought captive (2 Corinthians 10:5) and only believe what Christ would say. We have to only think upon those things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely (Philippians 4:8) and cast down the lies and negativity that only Satan wants us to believe. And we have to renew our minds so that we will become transformed and come to know God’s good, acceptable and perfect will (Romans 12:2). Remember that the enemy comes to kill, steal, and destroy… but Christ came so that we could have life and have it more abundantly (John 10:10) God does not want us abused. He does not want us to be broken… but He will use all things to work together for our good (Romans 8:28). He wants us to overcome all that this world has done to try to destroy us and for us to rise up to the divine calling that He has placed upon each life.
