Forgiveness, according to Wikipedia:
“Forgiveness is the intentional and voluntary process by which a victim undergoes a change in feelings and attitude regarding an offense, lets go of negative emotions such as vengefulness, with an increased ability to wish the offender well.”
Now, forgiveness is not easy to do. It is extremely difficult for victims to forgive those who have victimized them. In fact, there are many times that it seems humanly impossible to forgive what is unforgiveable in our eyes. But God has set the standard, not man.
Forgiveness, according to God:
“For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.” Matthew 6:14-15
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9
“Then he adds: “Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more.” Hebrews 10:17
” And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.” Mark 11:25
“The Lord our God is merciful and forgiving, even though we have rebelled against him…” Daniel 9:9
“Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy.” Micah 7: 18-19
Dear Lord, we thank You for the grace and mercy which You bestow upon us. We repent for anything that we have done to hurt You, family, friends, or anyone… and ask You to help us to forgive others as You have forgiven us. Help us to forgive the unforgivable. Help us to Love the unlovable. Bring healing and restoration and empower us to walk as You walked this earth with levels of forgiveness that can only come with supernatural intervention in our lives… in Jesus’ Name, we pray. Amen.
