Domestic Violence Awareness: Physical Abuse… and Shootings

Physical abuse…
is what most people recognize…
for the bruises are still evident…
though attempts are made to disguise.
For cuts and bruises on faces…
are not as easy for victims to hide…
unlike those on the back and chest…
or even on the arms, legs, and side.
For these can be covered by clothes…
concealing bruises outward on the skin…
but all these physical abuses…
is not usually where it will begin.
For all these abuses cause wounds…
including negative words we’re told…
cause even words cut like a knife…
inflicting wounds on our spirit and soul.
Now cuts and bruises from violence…
have been inflicted upon many…
but what about other wounds…
like shootings that affect plenty.
And this thought came to me today…
with the tragic shooting this week…
for this shooter had an arsenal of guns…
like many of the abusers that we speak.
So imagine when victims are threatened…
and the fear that they must feel…
knowing their abuser has an arsenal of guns…
and their tendency to violence is very real.
For these abuses tend to increase…
escalating with many ending in violence…
so we all need to raise awareness…
and no longer sit back in silence.
For no one should be subjected to abuse…
and be forced to live in fear…
so expose what is hidden behind closed doors…
before you lose someone that you hold dear.

Dear Lord, only You see the multitude of victims who have been wounded by various abuses. And only You see the evil thoughts and deeds that have been hidden by man behind closed doors. We ask You to expose all those who plan evil as we pray for protection from the hands of our abusers and from the evils of all men. We pray for a hedge of protection wherever we go and an army of angels to surround us and our families. Please bring healing and restoration to all of those injured this week by this shooter and to all victims of abuse who have also been shot, hit, or injured in any way.  We ask You to empower all victims to rise up and overcome the abuses of their past and to change hearts to turn from evil and walk in righteousness… in Jesus’ Name, we pray. Amen.
