Parental Rights Versus Children’s Rights

Parental rights…
is what many cry out!
But children’s rights…
is what this is about.
For Children have rights…
but many are emotionally abused…
by their own parents…
who should love and not misuse.
For negative word after word…
with anger and bitterness shown…
is what’s hidden behind doors…
and these children have known.
Then these parents demand rights…
when the other takes a stand…
as these children become broken…

The wounds caused by abusive words continue to fester like an infection long after the first cut is made.  And, as the above quote states, someone who continues to cut people down with words will only get worse the more it is allowed, cutting deeper and deeper with every cut.

DV Awareness Day#20: Various Abuses– Which Have You Experienced?

As I was thinking of the various abuses that so many of us have endured, I thought of providing a list and having people write which ones they have experienced. Too many people still think that verbal and emotional abuse is insignificant… but it is not. It is the forerunner that leads to the other abuses. Now I can tell you that there were times that I thought it would be easier to be hit than the constant verbal attacks. But no abuse is easy. No abuse is right. And it is only when we say, “enough is enough” and stand up to the abuses, that we can get the strength to find a way out and accept the abuse “no more”!
