Caterpillar to Butterfly: From Victim to Victorious

From victim to victorious…
are the words that came to me…
as I looked at this picture…
and the transformation we can see.
For wanting to fly away…
is actually a common thought…
as many have wanted to escape…
from the battles being fought.
For victims are victimized…
and made to feel so low…
as they endure many abuses…
that most don’t even know.
And though some actually crawl…
on egg shells most walk…
for many have been beaten…
but all have suffered abusive talk.
For attack after attack…
just beats us down more…
as fear and brokenness increases…
with the abuses we deplore.
And in our dreams…
and our hopes deep within…
we wish we were free…
and the abuses would end.
And if we could escape…
and somehow fly away…
to be free from the abuses…
like the dawn of a new day.
But we have to make a choice…
to be a “victim no more”…
and must be willing…
to somehow walk out the door.
For that is the first step…
for the transformation to begin…
To say enough is enough…
and this abuse must come to an end.
And though the process is not easy…
going from “caterpillar to butterfly”…
there is victory in the making…
as they spread their wings to fly.
No one should be abused…
for God wants us all free.
That’s why He sent His Son…
Who gave His life for you and me.
For Christ was abused and battered…
so He knows all the pain we feel.
And just like from caterpillar to butterfly…
our transformations with Him are real.

“But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31

“And do not be conformed to this world,
but be transformed by the renewing of your mind,
that you may prove what is that good and acceptable
and perfect will of God.” Romans 12:2

Dear Lord, only You see the struggles and pain that all victims of abuses experience. You see the wounds deep within each heart… and just where all these wounds did start. You see the abuses that occur behind closed doors where man thinks that they are hidden. You see the souls that are so broken that they appear to crawl in response to words or actions of man. Deliver us all from these evils. Bring freedom to all victims and all the broken so that they will be victimized no more. Turn hearts to You so that they will no longer conform to this world but will be transformed by the renewing of their minds… that all the broken will come to know that they are children of the Most High God and are called to a higher purpose than crawling like a caterpillar. Set them all free and help us all to soar to higher levels of faith with You… in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

  1. A beautiful quote and poem Angel! There’s a potential butterfly in each of us, depending on how badly we want to escape the caterpillar.

      • Absolutely. Like the scriptures say, do not be yoked with the unrighteous. That’s because they can tear us down. But if we make friends with the faithful we can be raised up!

That’s not to say we ignore the unbelievers by any means. We need to try to set a good example for them of faithful Christians.

But just to befriend them and nothing more is not usually a good outcome…

      • A super scripture Angel! If we are trained by the word of God, we can know what His will is for us and what is a worldly lie…

We are transformed by the constant reading and living of the Lord’s commands and guidance in our lives…

        🙂

      • And I’ve heard it said that God loves us so much that He won’t force anyone to choose in favor of Him, although that’s what He truly wants.

I’m sure He could make us all do as He wills, but He wants the choice to come from the heart. He’s a “heart, mind, and soul” kind of Lord!

        🙂

      • Yes… He would be considered abusive if He forced us to do something that we did not want to do. We have to willingly seek Him. It’s part of our walk with Him.

      • A very good and interesting point Angel! God is perfect and not capable of evil doing.

So it would make sense that He wouldn’t force anyone to do anything against their will, or that wasn’t in their hearts to do already. A very good point you make!

        🙂

      • It is hard to fathom just how great He is with our little human brains. But if He showed us all of His greatness here and now, our heads might burst…lol!

        🙂

  2. Your blog today caught my eye …because my name means butterfly….. I feel alot of anger because I feel more like a SLUG than a butterfly….slimmed by abusive people stuck in the slim. The ups and downs of recovering ….as you can guess Im in the downs right now.

    • Hi Nessa! I totally understand. So many of us struggle with self-esteem, weight issues, brokenness… all different results of the negative words spoken against us and the abuses that we encounter. We all have to try to “transform” our minds every day to overcome the abuses of our past. We are all still ” a work in progress” and just need to take it one day at a time. We all need to remember, we are the righteousness of God in Christ… and the only opinion of us that matters is HIS! May He pour out His blessings upon you!!

  4. The words in your Poem greatly touched my heart Secretangel, yes I have crawled in those shoes but I changed from a grub to a Butterfly but not by my might but by God’s as I chose His guidelines and the colors of the Rainbow now adorn my wings, His Promise below set me free to soar with Him.

Isaiah 43:1-3 Do not be afraid for I have ransomed you I have called you by name you are mine. When you go through deep waters and great trouble I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty you will not drown! When you walk through the fire of oppression you will not be burned up the flames will not consume you. For I am the LORD your God, The Holy One of Israel, your Saviour.”

Jeremiah 29 :11-12 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you says the LORD, thoughts of Peace and not of evil to give you a Future and a Hope.

Lamentations 3: 33 For God doth not afflict willingly nor grieve the Children of Men.

Christian Love and Blessings – Anne.

  6. What a beautiful description of the thoughts of the abused and their desire to be free along with the steps to begin to get out of it. I especially love the focus of how much God loves us.
