According to Wikipedia, “Statutory Rape” is defined as:
Sexual activity in which one person is below the age required to legally consent to the sexual behavior. Also it usually refers to adults engaging in sex with minor children under the age of legal consent. it is a generic term, and very few jurisdictions use the actual term “statutory rape” in the language of statutes.
Different jurisdictions use many different statutory terms for the crime, such as “sexual assault”, “rape of a child”, “corruption of a minor”, “unlawful sex with a minor”, “carnal knowledge of a minor”, “unlawful carnal knowledge”, “sexual battery”, or “carnal knowledge”.
In statutory rape, overt force or threat need not be present. The laws presume coercion, because a minor or mentally challenged adult is legally incapable of giving consent to the act.
The term “statutory rape” generally refers to sex between an adult and a sexually mature minor past the age of puberty. Sexual relations with a prepubescent child, generically called child sexual abuse or molestation, is typically treated as a more serious crime.

….which is ironic since in this day and age in virtually all cases of statutory rape where the younger person is in their teens, *they* are the initiator. …still doesn’t make it legal, but if the state is going to prosecute the adult then they need to prosecute the minor as well. If they would do this then the number of cases would drop *dramatically*!! Parents are so naive and lie to themselves or convince themselves that their kid is just an innocent and was taken advantage of. When I was going to college over twenty years ago and lived in a large college metroplex with several surrounding towns I frequently witnessed teen girls actively hunting college guys and adult men for the purpose of casual dating and sex. They knew exactly what they were doing. Living in apartment complexes gave me ample opportunity to listen In on their conversations at the pool, social areas etc, as well as talk to a number of them on the subject. Most of them, though certainly not all, were latch key kids. They had more active sex lives than I did as a college guy. Their parents were totally clueless. That was twenty years ago, now the kids are FAR more educated, informed, and have the internet to work with and educate/facilitate things. The only way this will change is for parents to get FAR more involved in their kids lives AND NEVER assume their child is innocent and naive with regard to an proactive sex life. If a kid has unsupervised free time they WILL put it to use, usually doing something they shouldn’t.
I totally agree with all that you said. So many kids go astray with no direction and many go wrong “looking for love in all the wrong places.” These wrong decisions bring much heartbreak later on… Thanks for sharing. I really appreciate your support.
